A Magical Night

Friday night, March 19th, was our much anticipated Saving Sofia Crab Feed and Silent Auction. In eight short weeks, we were able to pull off one of the most magical nights of our lives. The evening felt so much like a wedding, baby shower, christening and birthday celebration all combined together...I will call it Sofia's Welcoming Party! The love in the room was so strong. It truly was so beautiful.

There are so many people to thank as this event could not have happened without them and I'm afraid if I started a list I would most certainly forget someone and that would be devastating. Lisa Lindsey from Genetically Enhanced who also happens to be the V.P. on the Board of Directors for DSIA was the woman behind the scenes who organized and orchestrated a perfect evening. Without her and the over 40 volunteers including all my "Sisterhood" sisters and my sister in law Jennifer, none of this could have happened. Amazing and generous friends, family and strangers helped make this event a HUGE success. And I think a really wonderful evening was shared by all that attended as well.

Drum roll please........we raised a net of $17,838.19 as of today in the Sofia Adoption Fund sponsored by DSIA!!!

AMAZING! INCREDIBLE! AWESOME! OVERWHELMING! TREMENDOUS! UNBELIEVABLE! and oh so COOL!!!

Sofia, you are loved. You are wanted. You are welcomed. A very big portion of the financial aspect of bringing you home is taken care of. We are so close to reaching our fundraising goal and then we can focus all our energy in getting you here just as quickly as possible. We ALL can't wait to meet you!

  1. So glad to be part of the Sisterhood. It feels great to help make an impact in some little one's life. The amazing thing is... she has no idea that a loving family and tons of friends are working so hard to have her. She is soooo lucky! I'm thrilled the event was a huge success -- the figure is jaw-dropping!

  6. It was so amazing to be a part of the event... thank you for including me, and living with my task-master ways for a few weeks :) Truly, I am so touched to be part of bringing Sofia home. I remember that night as I was driving home, totally happy and excited (and painfully exhausted!) and it hit me: there's a little girl waking up on the other side of the world and she has no idea what we have done for her. She has no idea that people she doesn't know love her so much and have just given everything they have to her... I can't wait for you to bring her home so she can be enveloped in that love. And, okay, so I can give her kisses :)

  8. I sooo wish we could have been there for this beautiful event but I am so glad that it all turned out perfectly. And all I can say is WOW!!! I can't believe how much money you raised. That is amazing. Also, we got our bracelets in the mail today and let me just say that my older daughters are fighting over who gets to where more of them. Thanks for sending them so quickly so we can wear them proudly in Sofia's honor. I can't wait to hear that you have a travel date!!!

  10. Hi Jen! :) Just wanted to introduce myself... We'll be adopting Sasha from Sofia's orphanage - but we're about a gabillion years (read: we're HOPING to travel by August or September) behind you! You are incredible... maybe you need to do adoption prep for a living? :)

I'm so glad things are going so well!!! My husband and I will definitely benefit from the groundwork that Sarah and Shawn and you and Hector lay!

I'm enjoying following your journey! Looking forward to hearing that you have a travel date!
