Sweet Sofia

Picture captured by the amazing Penny Sylvia for DSIA.

There is nothing sweeter than Sofia's face!

Quick update on our wonder girl! She is pulling up to stand on EVERYTHING and climbing onto things as well (as evidenced by her constant bumps and bruises). She is a COPY CAT...she will literally do whatever anyone else is doing. She is constantly using new signs and can very clearly say banana (nanana), mama, papa, nana, ball (baa), tickle (ticka) and many more words. She can blow into a recorder (brand new skill learned today!) and she drinks only from a straw now. She is cruising on furniture and in her crib and will push a shopping cart or walker toy and walk around. She has absolutely perfected her creep on hands and knees and is FAST. She dances and loves bathtime. She throws a ball and explores her whole house. She and Joaquin ADORE each other, give kisses, pats on the back and get into laughing matches in the car. Sofia's big brothers adore her and want her around them all the time, they fight over her often. She is very much in love with her mama, papa and nana. She is sassy and when she's done with something she is DONE. She has perfected her coy head tilt when she wants to be cute. She LOVES to eat and DO NOT get in her way. The only time she is truly angry is whenever food is taken away or not coming fast enough! She sleeps through the night and never makes a peep and likes to nap twice a day or one long nap but is totally flexible about this. She loves her bed and her room all to herself. All in all she is doing incredible and we continue to bond with her a little more every single day.

My friend and fellow blogger Bethany just wrote an amazing post on her blog "Our Perfectly Imperfect Life" about the rewards of special needs adoption. She speaks from her heart and really paints an accurate picture of the bonding process when adopting a child. Read it here.

  12. I cannot believe that is the same little girl! She is absolutely beautiful!! She is blossoming so much (there is no way she'd be doing/saying those things if she was still in the orphanage). What a blessed little girl!

  18. I'm totally laughing over the food thing ... Nika was the same.exact.way. OMG, she has gotten better but seriously, it used to be that if we even walked into the kitchen, Nika was high tailing it behind us. Haha ... thanks for that reminder. :)

What a doll baby ... thanks for letting me include her in my post. :)

  19. I just started reading and Sofia is amazing (your other kiddos are adorable too). My daughter is about 14 months old so I enjoy seeing what is around the corner for my Kate. Your story is beautiful and I smile that you got your girl;) I have four boys are Kate was our surprise in more than one way. I enjoy dressing Kate similarly as you do Sofia, just like I always dreamed I would dress a little girl, it is so much fun. I am a big fan of Boden too, I notice your boys in it ( I dress(ed) my boys in it as well Kate too). Just wanted to say hello.

  22. This is a gorgeous photo of your little girl. My friend Jen Hodder gave you a blog award, and so I came over to see your blog...only to realize I've been here before and have followed your adoption of Sofia for quite a while now. I loved this update. She is sure getting big :)

We did the Institutes program on our daughter back in 1997-1999 after she was brain injured in a car accident. Someone directed me to Jen's blog after her daughter's accident, and I contacted her to let her know about the Institutes. That is how we met :)

Your boys are getting so big. I'm thrilled to know that they fight over Sofia. What a beautiful family you have.
